Danzig Interview

With the Danzig CDs being re-issued along with bonus tracks and a double live cd coming in November I had a short chat on the phone with Glenn Danzig and here's how it went.

By Chris Forbes

CHRIS FORBES: Do you get sick of playing live at all?

GLEN DANZIG: No but I do not like the rehearsals (laughs) I enjoy playing live very much, but rehearsals sometimes gets boring.

CHRIS FORBES: When will this live CD be coming out?

GLEN DANZIG: It will be out in November and it will be a double live CD. It will be like 2 songs from various shows. Stuff like from the Ozzfest and Seattle, and other shows and stuff. Stuff from like 89 up till now.

CHRIS FORBES: Is there any places that you haven't played that you would like to?

GLEN DANZIG: Spain, Greece, China would be cool to play, I don't think many bands get to play there.

CHRIS FORBES: What are you currently planning to do?

GLEN DANZIG: We currently have to do the 2nd leg of our tour here in America. After that we are going to South America, then we hit Europe, and then Asia, after that we will just take it from there. I think we will take a break and let that double live cd come out as well.

CHRIS FORBES: I know you write all the songs. Do you just show them to the band when you're ready?

GLEN DANZIG: I pretty much just write the songs and show them to everybody, show them all their parts.

CHRIS FORBES: Is it hard for you still to come up with ideas?

GLEN DANZIG: Um certain songs come esay and other ones are hard. Some songs get taken apart put back together and stuff.

CHRIS FORBES: What was the hardest song you ever had to write?

GLEN DANZIG: (pauses) Black Acid Devil was hard. That is one I can name off the top of my head.

CHRIS FORBES: Is there any songs that you are kinda sick of playing live?

GLEN DANZIG: I enjoy every song that we play live. Some songs we as a band know inside and out so at least we don't have to rehearse them much (laughs)

CHRIS FORBES: I know you're a pretty big guy. Do you follow any weight training schedule?

GLEN DANZIG: I used to, but I don't anymore cause I have so many other things going on with the band and stuff. I have to work out whenever I can find the time. I don't lift a lot of weight. I do bodybuilding, not weightlifting. Somebody outside of that stuff wouldn't know the difference. Bodybuilding is sculpturing your body you know what I mean. (yes i do - chris) Weightlifting is more to see how much weight you can lift.

CHRIS FORBES: Do you see the band getting any bigger or do you think this is as big as it is going to get?

GLEN DANZIG: I don't really know and I don't try to guess what will happen. I think just looking at it from an outsider point of view I kinda see this as a lot of older bands do. You have your good periods and you have your down periods. You have a hot release then you have a record that doesn't have a hit on it. I am perfectly happy with my career as it is pretty much what I wanted. I never wanted to be like in a band that always had to have a hit you know what I mean.

CHRIS FORBES: Any advice for any young bands out there at all?

GLEN DANZIG: Yes I would say practice a lot and be very objective. Be honest with yourself. If you write a song and it sucks, be man enough to say that the song sucks. Just try to do the best that you can do.

CHRIS FORBES: OK Glen that is about all the questions I have for you. Take care and good luck on the tour.

GLEN DANZIG: Thanks again for the interview.
